Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Pitch Notes.
- Accumulator
- Similar to a parlay, a bet that combines multiple selections and the winnings from each roll over to the next.
- Asian Handicap
- A point spread used in soccer to level the playing field, giving a virtual advantage or disadvantage to each team.
- Back Bet
- A conventional bet that an outcome will happen, placed against the exchange or bookmaker.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for placing bets.
- Bet Builder
- A tool that allows you to combine multiple markets from a single match into one custom bet.
- Bonus Wagering Requirement
- The number of times you must bet a bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings from it.
- Bookmaker Margin
- The percentage of total bets that the bookmaker expects to keep as profit, also called the overround.
- Both Teams To Score
- A bet on whether both sides will find the net at least once during the match.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Decimal Odds
- A way to express odds as a single number, including your stake; e.g., 2.50 means $2.50 returned for each $1 bet.
- Double Chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes in a match (e.g., win/draw, draw/loss) reducing risk.
- Draw No Bet
- A bet where you pick a team to win; if the match ends in a draw, your stake is refunded.
- Fractional Odds
- Traditional odds shown as a fraction; e.g., 5/1 means you win $5 for every $1 wagered.
- Free Bet
- A bet credit given by a sportsbook that can be used to place a wager without risking your own money.
- In-Play Betting
- Placing bets on a match while it is already in progress, with odds that update as the game unfolds.
- Lay Bet
- A bet that a particular outcome will not happen, typical on a betting exchange.
- Moneyline Odds
- Odds expressed as a positive or negative number indicating how much you win or need to stake on a favorite or underdog.
- Odds
- The number that tells you how much you can win relative to your stake.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total score of a match will be higher (over) or lower (under) than a set number.
- Parlay
- A single bet that links two or more selections; all must win for the bet to pay out.
- Single Bet
- A straightforward bet on one outcome; you win if that prediction is correct.
- Spread
- In betting, the expected margin of victory that the favorite must cover for a bet to win.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a particular bet.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability suggests, offering potential long‑term profit.
- Vigorish
- The commission or fee a bookmaker charges for taking a bet, usually built into the odds.
